Announcements

March 5, 2022

Hello everyone,

We know many of you have been stressed about the timeline for the Ten-Minute plays and the Green Room schedule for the rest of the semester. As promised, here is the followup announcement to our emergency meeting last Sunday.

        TL;DR:

  • The 10 Minute Plays will be performing April 1-3 in Johnson Chapel.

  • The Flick will be performing as originally planned on April 1-3. The shows are scheduled so that members of one can see the other.

  • Arsenic and Old Lace will not be put on this semester, but will be on the ballot for next Fall.

  • Green Room Revue and The Bacchae will perform roughly as scheduled.

Below we’ll explain these decisions in more detail.

The Ten Minute Plays

During our straw poll during the emergency meeting to determine the new dates for the 10MPF, votes came in overwhelmingly in favor of performing the weekend of March 26. Unfortunately, there are no spaces available on campus every day that weekend. On the other hand, we understand that those of you involved in the 10 Minute Plays did not sign up to be involved in these shows for the majority of the semester, so we wanted to schedule the 10MPF as soon as possible. This left us with April 1-3 or April 8-10. We chose the former because of scheduling conflicts and to avoid having to compete with Mattea Denney’s thesis, Last Five Years. We’re excited to perform the 10MPF in Johnson Chapel. This is the first time a Green Room show will perform in the Chapel itself, and it’s an ideal location for this performance due to its high seating space, backstage, and lighting fixtures.

The Flick

We did discuss moving The Flick back with its cast and crew, so that it wouldn’t have to perform simultaneously with the 10MPF. Unfortunately, there were substantial space constraints which made that unfeasible. We have scheduled the shows so that cast and crew of one show can see the other.

Arsenic and Old Lace

Bumping all of this semester’s shows back to after Spring Break is an extremely tight squeeze for 5 shows. The Bacchae will still have time to perform at the end of the semester, and so we were left with figuring out times for both Arsenic and Revue. We quickly discovered that there was not enough time to do both, especially given the large quantity of actors and crew required. The Revue has a more flexible rehearsal schedule than Arsenic, fewer tech needs, and is the less redundant show, as it has been years since Green Room has done a musical. Because of this, we decided by majority vote of the eboard to cut Arsenic and Old Lace for this semester.

We know this will be disappointing to many of you. Arsenic was one of our highest voted shows for this semester, and we have heard from many people who were excited to participate in it. Therefore, we have decided to put Arsenic and Old Lace on the ballot for next Fall, in a different voting category than the other shows (i.e. under a simple yes/no vote, similar to how we voted for the ten minute play festival this semester), so that if there is still interest it will be put on next year.

Audition dates for the Green Room Revue will be announced soon. People who are performing in the 10MPF will be allowed to audition. We hope to see many of you there! Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
